Re:  Section 278 road works – Dilly Lane, Hartley Wintney

I write to inform you that Barratt Southern Counties’ appointed contractor will commence works on Monday August 2nd 2010 in order to construct the new site entrance into the new development along with some associated drainage works.  It is envisaged that the works will be complete within 5 weeks but may be subject to change due to factors beyond our collective control.

It has been agreed with the Highway Authority and because of Health and Safety that Dilly Lane will be closed in the vicinity of the junction of Mitchell Avenue and the development entrance for the duration of the works. However access onto Dilly Lane from Tarrant Gardens and Green Lane Gardens will remain open.

There will be a signed diversion route, and access for residents and emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times. (Diversion Route and Points of Closure shown on attached plans).

Your cooperation would be appreciated in order to minimise any disruption for which we apologise.

Thank you in anticipation of your co-operation in this matter.

If you require any further clarification, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Yours faithfully

Colin Blakeley

Warning - Rogue Traders are cold calling in Oakley, Basingstoke  and surrounding areas of Hampshire offering to carryout work on driveways etc.  They are not providing consumers with the required notice of right to cancel, which gives consumers a 7 day cooling off period and  they are starting work before this period ends without any written consent from householders.

Householders are advised that recent changes to planning laws have resulted in planning permission being required for some block paving and tarmac work on driveways.  Further advice on these requirements can be obtained from your local authority Planning Department.  The onus in obtaining this permission lies with the householder and not the business carrying out this work and some traders appear to be abusing this position.

If anyone has any information about these traders or requires any advice on doorstep crime they can contact Hampshire County Council's Quick Response Team on 01962 833666, where specially trained officers are on hand to provide assistance.

Hampshire Trading Standards Service always advise residents to say “No” to all doorstep cold callers and if they require any work/service carried out on their property to consider using a trader that has been recommended to them or the Hampshire County Council Buy With Confidence approved trader scheme, details of which can be found online at www.buywithconfidence.gov.uk   or by  calling Consumer   Direct  on 08454 040506.

We would advise you not to deal with cold callers at the door or by telephone.  If you are considering having some work done, why not use our Buy with Confidence Scheme.  These are local traders who have been checked by us.
